The recent developments in cricket, especially, in India requires me to key in my thoughts on one of the most discussed news. I wrote in my first blog, rather jokingly, if Whatmore is the answer to our woes. But it looks like it might turn into reality, even though his enthusiasm did not go down well with BCB. After all, coaching India is the most coveted job, and is very lucrative. With Tom Moody, not showing great eagerness to grab the golden egg, it might be Dav Whatmore, who might be crowned as the coach of India.
I was pretty convinced that Dravid should stay on as the captain and Chappell as the coach. But under the circumstances, Chappell did what was right, for him and for the team. Yet, I was surprised that he decided to stay in India and serve at NCA. I am happy that we still have Chappell in India, even though, not as a coach. More than that I was very happy to see Shastri doning the role of the coach. At last he has turned his back to commentary and decided to get really involved with the proceedings on stage. I am sure this is a temporary arrangement, just for Bangladesh tour. However, the fact that he will stay on as the Manager, certainly gladdens me.
I was joking to my room mate that India should have a fielding coach like South Africa. And what do I hear on the same day? That's right, Robin Singh has been appointed as a fielding coach. Venkatesh Prasad as bowling coach? I am not sure about that. Where is Mr. Kapil Dev? So what has he been doing apart from airing his views about the current team and endlessly criticizing Chappell and Co. Come forward Mr. Dev and share the burden on your shoulders. After all, you guided this nation to its first World Cup victory.
For the first time in my life, I feel totally confident that the current resolutions should take this young Indian team to unscaled heights. The need of the day is consistency. Consistently winning, most of the matches, if not all. Nothing succeeds like success. I want to reiterate here, we should look to build a team that treats each series like a World Cup. Lets cheer for India !

If you look at the worst fielders in the team are, except ganguly everyone else is a bowler..that's where we have a problem..kumble might be as good a bowler as murali.. but in fielding? For some reason the bowlers we have are not athletic at all.
Indians are not athletic, but more importantly, Indians do not dive in the field, partly because, the grass is hard in the field....I think the team should collectively improve in fielding. If you look at Zim or even Ireland, they make up for their lack in bowling by fielding. You still save abt 20-30 runs. Dont u think Ganguly has improved by heaps n bounds after he's come back, be it batting or fielding !!!!
Did u start thinking he is a great fielder after he took that catch of jayasuriya in the recent series ?
I meant to say,he's improved compared to what he was !!!!!! He is better, if not a great fielder...also i am sure his commitmemnt has increased greatly !!!!
from what I read his committment is being questioned seriously..especially his slow batting
Sanky, there is no concept of "pay for perfrmance" in the desi team...I feel that's the main problem. Everywhere in the business / corporate world, that is the norm - so why are these demi-gods treated differently?
If Dravid and the Girls could lose to f**king Bangladesh of all countries, then it's pretty self explanatory what is happening!
Take care dude...seeya soon! :-)
